Our MusiciansThe musicians in our orchestra bring an amazing range of talent, training, and experience to the concert hall. Their educational backgrounds represent virtually every major school of music and conservatory in the country. Many former members of our orchestra are now residents of major symphony orchestras throughout the United States. These musicians’ love of music and of this particular orchestra brings them from all over Western New York and Pennsylvania to rehearse and perform together. This ensemble of outstanding players includes faculty at the Fredonia School of Music at SUNY Fredonia as well as professional musicians from the Buffalo, Rochester, and Erie areas and beyond!
A chamber orchestra consists of 15 to 40 players, rather than the 85 to 100 for a standard symphonic ensemble. Much of the standard orchestral repertoire is appropriate for the chamber orchestra, especially that written before the late 19th century, when this was the standard size of many orchestras. More recently, works may be designated especially for chamber orchestra or “small orchestra.” Our chamber orchestra also enjoys rehearsing and premiering new chamber works, including those written by composer Glen Cortese, who also acts as Artistic Director. |
